The 1980 Proof Set saw a redesigned package to specifically accommodate the new sized dollar coin and a higher issue price. The sets contained the same six coins as the prior year with a face value of $1.91, but the price was increased from $9.00 to $10.00.
Each set contained a proof version of the Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, Kennedy Half Dollar, and Susan B. Anthony Dollar. All coins were minted at the San Francisco mint and carried the "S" mint mark. The proof coins are commonly found with attractive black and white deep cameo finishes.
The packaging for the 1980 Proof Set was changed from the prior year. The primary plastic holder was smaller in size and the coins were no longer sealed in separate compartments. The coins were placed within slots of an internal red plastic piece, which was sealed between two clear plastic pieces. A black plastic sleeve slid over the plastic holder and could serve as a stand. The outer cardboard box was changed. It had a single opening at the top for the main holder to slide into.
