## 1984 US Mint Proof Set

The **1984 Proof Set** saw a slight redesign in the packaging from the prior year. The same number of coins were included as the prior year with a total of five. This included the Kennedy Half, Washington Quarter, Roosevelt Dime, Jefferson Nickel, and Lincoln Cent. All coins were minted at the San Francisco Mint with the “S” mint mark.

The US Mint additionally issued a **1984 Prestige Proof Set**. This expanded proof set included the five standard coins plus the 1984 Proof Olympic Silver Dollar. This set was priced at $59.00 and sold 316,680 units. This higher prestige set mintage may account for the significantly lower mintage of the regular proof set, which declined about 400,000 from the prior year.

Separately, this year marked the return of the other annual set issued by the US Mint containing uncirculated coins. The Mint Set was not issued during the years 1982 and 1983.

The packaging for the 1984 Proof Set was changed from prior years. The five coins were placed within individual holes in textured purple cardboard. This was sealed within a single plastic lens. The outer box was a matching shade of purple and had the words “United States Proof Set 1984” in silver printing.
