## 1989 US Mint Proof Set

The **1989 Proof Set **was the final proof set for the 1980’s. The mintage remained relatively steady around the 3 million level. Each set contained five coins: the Kennedy Half Dollar, Washington Quarter, Roosevelt Dime, Jefferson Nickel, and Lincoln Cent. Coins are generally found with deep cameo finishes and are readily encountered in high grades.

A quite attractive proof set for this year can easily be acquired for less than the original issue price of $11.00 per set.

The US Mint offered a** 1989 Prestige Proof Set**, which was an expanded version of the regular proof set. This larger set contained the Congressional Half Dollar and Silver Dollar Commemorative Coins. The 1989 Prestige Proof Set was priced at $45.00 and sold 211,807 units.

Packaging for the standard proof set remained unchanged for 1989. The coins were held within individual holes of a purple cardboard holder. These were sealed into a single plastic lens, housed in a purple cardboard box.
