1991 Proof Set

1991 Proof Set1991 US Mint Proof Set

The 1991 Proof Set continued the annual tradition of offering a collection of proof versions of the year’s coins for collectors. These coins are struck multiple times using specially prepared dies to create sharp strikes and a deep cameo finish.

Included in the present set were proof versions of the Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, and Kennedy Half Dollar. All of the coins were struck at the San Francisco Mint and contain the “S” mint mark.

Besides the standard version of the set, the US Mint separately offered the 1991 Prestige Proof Set, priced at $59.00.

The 1991 Prestige Proof Set was an expanded proof set offering also produced by the United States Mint that year. The set included the Mount Rushmore Commemorative Half Dollar and Silver Dollar coins and came in a more ornate packaging. Final sales for this version of the set were 256,954 units.

The packaging for the 1991 Proof Set was themed in purple. The coins were held in place within slots of a purple cardboard holder sealed in a plastic lens. This lens was placed in an outer purple cardboard box with silver printing on the outside.
