2016 Silver Proof Set

2016 US Mint Silver Proof Set

The United States Mint opened sales for the 2016 Silver Proof Set on April 18, 2016. This product featured proof versions of each of the annual coin releases, with seven of the coins struck in the traditional composition of 90% silver and 10% copper.

The silver coins included within the set were the 2016-dated Roosevelt Dime, Kennedy Half Dollar, and the five America the Beautiful Quarters. The 2016 Kennedy Half Dollar once again featured the restored obverse portrait by Gilroy Roberts. The quarters featured five different reverse designs representing Shawnee National Forest in Illinois, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in Kentucky, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in West Virginia, Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota, and Fort Moultrie in South Carolina.

In addition to the seven silver coins, the sets also included six coins struck in their standard modern compositions. Each set included the final three Presidential Dollars within the series. These coins carried obverse designs honoring the former Presidents Richard M. Nixon, Gerald R. Ford, and Ronald Reagan. The latest Native American Dollar was also included, which featured a reverse design honoring the Native American Code Talkers of World War I and World War II. Finally, the sets included the 2016-dated Lincoln Cent and Jefferson Nickel.

All thirteen coins of the set were struck at the San Francisco Mint and carry the “S” mint mark. The mint mark appears on the obverse of the cent, nickel, dime, quarters, and half dollar. The $1 coins carry the mint mark on the incused edge lettering. The coins are all struck to a cameo proof finish featuring frosted raised design elements against a mirrored background.

The coins are housed in three sealed plastic lenses. These are placed within an outer storage box illustrated with an image of the Washington Monument on the front and images associated with the coins on the back. A certificate of authenticity was included within the box.

Pricing for the 2016 Silver Proof Set was $52.95 with no stated ordering limit or production limit. The pricing reflected a reduction of $1 compared to the prior year set due to a smaller number of coins being included in the set.
