A total of ten coins ranging from cent to dollar were included in the 2003 Proof Set (Buy on eBay). All coins were struck at the San Francisco Mint and carried the “S” mint mark. Nearly all proof coinage of this year will be encountered with a deep cameo finish.
The 2003 Proof Set featured the five 2003 State Quarters representing Illinois, Alabama, Maine, Missouri, and Arkansas. In addition the set contained the proof versions of the Sacagawea Golden Dollar, Kennedy Half Dollar, Roosevelt Dime, Jefferson Nickel, and Lincoln Cent. The mintage for this year’s set showed a slight decline from the prior year, however the entire set or individual proof coins can all be acquired at relatively affordable prices.
The US Mint issued two other proof sets for collectors in addition to the standard set. The other sets consisted of a separate State Quarters offering and the 90% silver composition set.
Packaging for the 2003 Proof Set remained similar in design to all years since the State Quarters series began. The dollar, half dollar, dime, nickel, and cent were sealed in one plastic lens, with the five State Quarters in a separate lens. These two lenses were placed in a cardboard box with an image of the Statue of Liberty and a blue color scheme. The outside of the box indicated the contents.
