On April 22, 2021, the United States Mint began selling the 2021 Silver Proof set (Buy on eBay) priced at $105 despite having only two quarters.
The 2021 set had two quarters struck in .999 fine silver Proof and housed in their own lens. One quarter was the final ATB release for the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site in Alabama. The reverse design depicts a Tuskegee Airman pilot suiting up to join the fight during World War II with the Moton Field control tower in the background. The pilot looks upward with pride and confidence as two P- 51 Mustangs pass overhead.
The other quarter was the very popular, one-year only General George Washington Crossing the Delaware Quarter featuring an obverse design that marks a return to the familiar depiction of George Washington by John Flanagan as it appeared on the quarter from 1932 to 1998. The image was modified for the 50 State Quarters, the DC and U.S. Territories Quarter, and the America the Beautiful Quarters Programs. In this revived depiction, Washington’s portrait is larger, and with higher relief. The reverse featured General George Washington commanding his troops through the overnight crossing of the ice-choked Delaware River prior to the Battle of Trenton during the American Revolutionary War.
The set also as usual included a second lens with Proof versions of the Lincoln cent, Jefferson nickel and Native American dollar plus .999 fine silver versions of the Roosevelt dime and Kennedy half dollar.
As of the time of writing (July 2022), these sets were still on sale and had cumulative sales of 287,311.
On October 1, the Mint began offering the 2021 Limited Edition Silver Proof set (Buy on eBay) for the highest price ever, $235.00, because it included two Proof American Silver Eagles – one Type 1 reverse and one Type 2 reverse coin. The first one was the 2021-W Proof American eagle, while the second was the 2021-S Proof American Silver Eagle.
The sets also included silver versions of the two 2021 quarters plus silver versions of the Roosevelt dime and Kennedy half dollar.
The higher-price point of this set did not seem to deter buyers, and the set had first day sales of 48,286, representing 96.5% of the maximum product limit of 50,000. That was not surprising since at this time the individual offerings of both Proof Silver Eagles had already sold out due to intense interest in the change of reverse designs.
Not long after this, the sets sold out with final sales of 48,547.
