2005 Proof Set

The 2005 Proof Set (Buy on eBay) was the second year that the annual Proof Set contained contained 11 coins. The increased number of coins was due to the State Quarter Series, which issued five quarters, and the Westward Journey Nickel Series, which issued two nickels. The mintage for the 2005 Proof Set saw a big jump from the prior year. Sales above the 2 million mark would continue for one more year before they resumed their downward slant.

Each set included the five 2005 State Quarters honoring California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas, and West Virginia. The two Westward Journey Nickels featured the American Bison and the Ocean in View. The remaining coins were the Sacagawea Dollar, Kennedy Half Dollar, Roosevelt Dime, and Lincoln Cent.

During the year, the U.S. Mint also offered separate State Quarters Proof Sets in clad or 90% silver compositions, as well as the annual Silver Proof Set.

The packaging for the regular 2005 Proof Set remained similar to the recent prior years. The Statue of Liberty appears with the United States Mint logo on the outer cardboard box. Inside, the Proof coins are placed in two separate lenses, along with the certificate of authenticity.
