The 2005 Silver Proof Set once again contained a total of 11 coins, including seven coins struck in 90% silver. The expanded number of coins was related to the expanded number of coins for the quarter and nickel denominations. The price of the set was once again $37.95, which may have weighed on the sales level.

The 2005 Silver Proof Set contains five State Quarters struck in 90% silver featuring California, Minnesota, Oregon, Kansas, and West Virginia.  There are also two Westward Journey Nickels featuring the "American Bison" and the "Ocean in View." The remaining 90% silver coins are the Kennedy Half and Roosevelt Dime. The remaining coins with regular compositions are the Sacagawea Dollar and Lincoln Cent.

The US Mint continued to offer an additional silver proof set, including only the five quarter. The 2005 State Quarters Silver Proof Sets were priced at $23.95 and sold 608,970 units.

The packaging for the 2005 Silver Proof Set featured a rendition of the Statue of Liberty and the US Mint's logo. These were included on red themed packaging used for the silver sets. Inside, the State Quarters were sealed in one plastic lens with the remaining coins in another. Sets included a certificate of authenticity from the US Mint.
