The annual proof set offerings from the United States Mint were expanded once again in 1992. The regular 1992 Proof Set contained proof versions of the five coins issued for circulation, the half dollar, quarter, dime, nickel, and cent. An additional 1992 Silver Proof Set was also offered. This set contained 90% silver versions of the half dollar, quarter, and dime.

The Prestige Proof Set was also still offered in 1992. This was an expanded version of the regular proof set. In addition to the five coins with a clad based composition, the Olympic Half Dollar and Dollar Commemorative coins were included. The 1992 Prestige Proof Set carried an original price of $56.00 and sold 183,293. This was a marked decrease from the typical mintage range, probably due to the expanded number of proof set offerings.

The regular 1992 Proof Set still came in the purple themed packaging. The individual coins were placed within holes of a purple cardboard sealed within a plastic lens. This was placed in an outer purple cardboard box with silver printing denoting the contents.
