The annual Proof Set offerings from the United States Mint were expanded in 1992. The regular 1992 Proof Set (Buy on eBay) contained Proof versions of the five coins issued for circulation in their standard compositions. A separate type of set, the 1992 Silver Proof Set, was also offered which contained 90% silver versions of the half dollar, quarter, and dime.
The standard composition 1992 Proof Set still remained the most popular annual set offering with final sales of 2,675,618 sets. Each set contained the San Francisco minted Kennedy Half Dollar, Washington Quarter, Roosevelt Dime, Jefferson Nickel, and Lincoln Cent.
Standard composition Proof coins were also offered in the 1992 Prestige Proof Set (Buy on eBay). This version of the set was specially packaged with the 1992 Olympic Half Dollar and the 1992 Olympic Silver Dollar, priced at $56.00. Final reported sales were 183,293, representing a decrease from the typical mintage range, probably due to the expanded number of Proof Set offerings.
The 1992 Proof Set still came in the purple themed packaging. The individual coins were placed within holes of a purple cardboard sealed within a plastic lens. This was placed in an outer purple cardboard box with silver printing denoting the contents.
