The 1995 Proof Set (Buy on eBay) is viewed as one of the key modern Proof Sets. The total mintage declined by about 300,000 to reach only 2,010,384 sets, which marked the lowest level for a regular issue set since 1960. Collectors were caught unprepared for this and accordingly the sets continue to carry a premium price on the secondary market.
Individual Proof coins contained in the set also carry premiums. These are usually viewed as tougher dates within complete set of their respective series. The 1995-S Proof versions of the Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, and Kennedy Half Dollar will all typically have a deep cameo finish and will be relatively attainable in high grade.
Besides the standard set, the U.S. Mint also issued the 1995 Prestige Set (Buy on eBay) which contained the commemorative 1995 Civil War Battlefields Half Dollar and 1995 Civil War Battlefields Silver Dollar. This set was priced at $57.00 and sold 107,112 units, a new low for Prestige Proof Set mintages.
The packaging for the 1995 Proof Set continued the green color scheme that would be used until the nature of the set changed with the arrival of the State Quarters in 1999. The individual coins were placed within a green cardboard, which was sealed within a single plastic lens. This was placed within a green colored cardboard box with a single flap opening at the top.
